Knowledgeable Listers:

Could someone please explain to me how the aux. braking system on an M35 deuce
works? I see the front air connections and understand that the "emergency"
supplies constant air from the towing truck to the storage tanks, while the
"service" supplies air only when the brake pedal of the towing truck is pressed.
My root question is how is the impulse of "service" air converted into brake
pressure that replaces the pedal action of the disabled vehicle?

This is not entirely academic in that I am considering the feasibility of making
a shop van trailer out of a parts-truck M211 chassis and would like to plumb it
so the brakes work. It seems like duplicating the M35 system as close as
possible would be the simplest course.

I am wide open to ideas and suggestions.

Never forget that what we have today is the result of the struggles of former
years.
