I am traveling at the moment and relying upon my sometimes poor memory rather
than reference material, but if the truck you spotted was an M36C, not M36A2,
it would have had a gas engine.
The other comments about 5 ft longer bed & chassis are correct. The
passengers side of the bed should drop, AND a true M36C would have special
racks fitted to the bed to haul missles or munitions (As I said, relying on
memory here, it its not working 100% on this point!)

with the data plates that really "make" this the hard to find vehicle I
believe it is.
By the way, M36A2's are not very hard to find, but ride MUCH better than
M35's etc.
