Well yes and no. My brother works for the State Patrol Veh Inspections
and when I had the title to my 42 GPW corrected (I did this a couple of
wks after I orig titled it) all I did was go in and have it inspected
and I pointed out the errors and they gave me their inspection form with
the corrections on it. I them took it in with my recently issued title
and they corrected it on the computer and issued me a new one. It was
originally titled using the engine number which was a replacement engine
and didn't match the frame and data plate and I was told by bro that
someone could steal the jeep and retitle it with the frame number and I
would not get it back. And I had a person who was trying to steal the
jeep at the time so I went in and got it corrected. Now the inspection
was for title purposes not safety inspection as classic veh are exempt.
One of the corrections was the name of the veh was titled as "jeep". I
showed them the manual and retitled it has "Ford , GPW - 1/4T Truck,
4x4" The gal at the licensing kept saying "but it's a jeep" and it's
not. She had to call Olympia on that. "Jeep" did not become an actual
vehicle class untill much later. I put 1942 Wash State truck plate on
it. I gues the point is to learn how their inspection and title system
works and then provide enough documentation so as it's a no brainer for
them to agree with you. Now as far as the "mitey mite" that is a nick
name for one and for two Fed Dpt of Trans has declared them unsafe and
most states (if they recgonize the vehicles) try to get them off the
road. (I believe that's the case) The mitey mite is the M151 right? I
know we have one in the club and when my brother saw it he said that
there could be a problem. 99% of the enforcement people out there either
don't know or don't realy believe in the law so there's convient
enforcement unless the veh is envolved in an accident then all hell will
break lose. So if you try to correct or change the title on this type of
vehicle you better have a politically correct name for the vehicle that
is the truth but in a back door sort of way like a "car" is an
"automobile" is a "vehicle" . Or an "M151" is a "Ford 4x4" or a GMC
duec is a "GMC, 6x6 Truck" and can be licensed as a farm vehicle which
cuts the license tax in half. Oh, and the 1.5T Chev is HIS truck so I
think he knows exactly what to do. Later Dirt Man
