If at all possible and if you don't mind putting the later
(1945?) expanding-type brake instead of the contracting band,
you'll be a lot better off. I can tell you the contracting brake
band is a bitch to adjust...it is never quite right..if it is
loose when released then it does not brake anything when pulled
and if still in contact with the drum, it will heat up, burn and
wear out pretty quick... Some people may have had better luck
than me, but I could never get mine to work well... even
adjusting it by the numbers...
The expanding shoes inside the drum work a lot better...
