The current Mahindra (still on sale in the UK when I last looked) is an
Indian copy of the CJ3B with a Peugeot diesel engine, and quite useful as
a runabout sort of thing. Apparently they chose the CJ3B as the base
because of the extra height under the hood to get a modern engine in.

India has built / fixed / reprodcued most of the jeep models at one time
or another, and some of the parts that are commercially available are of
Indian origin (I've seen Indian fuel tanks for the MB/GPW, M38 and M38A1)

They even reproduced a Royal Enfield despatch riders motorcycle - with a
diesel engine, I kid you not. Apparently the review said it would do over
a hundred miles on a gallon of diesel, but not very quickly.
