Hi list,
Ken is correct. Let me quote from the company that designed and built the first M-151, Ford Motor Company.
(Ford) TRACTOR DIVISION NEWS .......April, 13,1964.......page three:

"Mutt Outplays Jeep"
" They call it "Mutt." No disrespect intended. The term comes from the first letters of its official name, Military Utility Tactical Truck. And luck would have it that the M-151, successor to the famed "Jeep", was born a Mutt."................
