The bumperettes on the Jeep family of vehicles was always a 2 sided
answer....originally the factory had the lumps down....The GI's noted that
when going through ravines and such--the hooks tended to "grab" onto
anything in the way. The motor sergeants would reverse the bumperetes to
satisfy the drivers...hence..you will find them "up" or "down" as may be the
case in question here... I have never seen anything in writing (by my old
boss-the ARMY) that said to install them on way or the other. All the
experts have only old photos and books (TM's and FM's) to go by. As many of
you noticed..there were different pictures in the books. I always had them
put on with the lumps down...but....I have had some maintenance personnel
want them up...even on the 151... Granted..you could not use it to hold your
gas can any longer..but that is what was wanted.. They used the lip to hold
other items in tow..like cammo gear and packs 'n such... When someone can
produce a Government Order on how to install them..I would like to see
it... 1SG PANTANO
