[MV] Ethical Question

Very good question Tom!

In recent years, since the hobby became more and more popular,
many reproduction parts became available with growing
quality and at the same time original parts became more scarce.

If the availability is 0 or prices for orig bits and pieces go skyhigh,
I think a good reproduction part is the right solution. If it comes to
that, it should be as good and original as you can make it.

And there comes the BUT...

- you correctly fear that someone might make money on the back
of a fellow enthusist by selling at as an original part

OR

- after several years "in use" and some respays and dents, even an
expert might not note the difference and judge it as original, without
the intention to betray somebody

You can never prevent miss use by somebody...even your dated
plate might be changed for a reproduced "original" one.

On the other hand, if I am to buy a reproduction part, I like it
to be as original as possible.

Thus, I would suggest the following:

- make it as good as possible (100 % please)
- use a copy of the original plate and date it 40ies
- punch in your makers symbol and date somewere where one
can not see it, e.g. when the radio is installed.

thereby

- it is a good buy if you have only the alternative to get a repro
- you are satisfied as it looks like the one you originally wanted
and the appearance is kept with the 40ies dated plate

AND

- because off your applied, hard to be removed markings at
a place were they can easily be found but not seen when the
vehicle is on display, the miss use is somewhat hindered.

KEEP THEM ROLLING
