Joe,
I really don't know the capacity of the hook, but I have some
thoughts.....(NOT Recommendations).....

According to my TM, hook made by Holland Hitch Co., they probably have a web
site with specs, although I think the rear crossmember is the weak link, not
the hitch itself.

Some of us locals had similar disscussion a while back, and I asked a friend
of mine who has worked for Memphis Equipment for 20+ years (among other
things, rebuilding pintle hooks), and he said he has NEVER seen one fail
structurally.

I hooked large military tow chain too LARGE stump and onto M35A2 pintle to
pull stump. Unsuccessfully. So I backed up and "jerked it", spun 10 tires
into deep holes, but neither pintle, crossmember, nor chain failed. This was
repeated several times, still unsuccessfully, until finally chaining my dad's
M328 bridge truck onto nose of Reo and repeating entire process with trucks
in tandem. Didn't pull stump, but didn't damage truck either.

hope this helps,
David
