Good advice/safety tip. I noticed also in the Jeep Owner's Bible the =
author suggests opening the hood while winching (not always possible/practi=
cal) to avoid having a possible broken or slipped cable end coming through =
the windshield. I'd think this would be a good tip for ANY vehicle =
running a winch.

re-winding the cable, I thought I could control the power wind from the
outside with the in and out handle. OOPS! >>

This is not a flame, so don't take as such, but NEVER operate any kind =

winch from this postion, should the cable (more properly wire rope) =
snap=20
under load while you are in the exposed position near the winch drum you =
are=20
likely to be seriously injured. EVERYONE should be the ropes spooled =
out=20
length + (to allow for stretching) radius away from bumper. Even when =
load=20
not heavy, rope can become snagged or tangled and overload, and shear =
pins=20
don't always shear when they are supposed to.

Only replace shear pin with proper shear pin, never use bolts, nails, etc.

BTW, Memphis Equipment has replacements for the now mangled plate, but =
you'll=20
have to reuse your old data plates.
