Re: [MV] growl

I have an M38A1 with the Spicer 18 transfer case. It was always pretty =
noisy/whiny since I got it, especially at higher speeds (What exactly are =
higher speeds for an old MV?). I thought old jeeps were normally noisy. =
Boy, was I mistaken.
I recently read something about the intermediate shaft and how it can =
cause noise if it gets worn. I had planned to pull the trans and xfer out =
over the long weekend and redo the seals and bearings anyway so I picked =
up an intermediate shaft rebuild kit. WOW! What a difference. Between =
that and replacing the worn front bearing on the trans, I can actually =
carry on a conversation driving down the road now. It quieted down =
incredibly.
I don't know what the M37 has in it, or if it's even the same type of =
setup, but if it is a Spicer 18, or similar, xfer the intermediate shaft =
would be something to check out. Mine wasn't difficult at all. The old =
one came out and the new one went in in less than a half hour. (Not =
including the time to pull the case out and put it back in. :->) I paid =
about $40 at the local Mepco. Good luck.

My m-37 has a growling in the drive train at moderate and higher
speeds. I suspect the transfer case. Could it be the trans?Has anyone
else had a similar problem?
