[MV] GPW/MB Fuel tank

Greetings. My 1942 GPW is in dire need of a fuel tank. The original is
rotted (along with the tank well). I have heard that a "cheapy"
replacement from the PI will run me $350. Is there a better source? Can
I get a tank that's higher quality (and I will GLADLY pay more for it)
and made somewhere "closer to home"? How about cutting out the bottom of
the offending tank and installing an aftermarket racing fuel cell, using
the old tank as camouflage? Any leads would be helpful, thanks.
