Hello Bill:
I have a home made bead blasting cabinet and found that a 5-6 HP compressor
is the MINIMUM size that will run continuously, and that is with a small
siphon bucket underneath such as is available from Northern Online (
www.northern-online ). It is great with small parts in preparation for
plating or anodizing. I have also used the siphon bucket blaster w/ silica
sand to blast my M38 frame and it looks great now. The sand/bead blasting
application requires the full, continuous output from the compressor; all
other tools require much less output. In addition to a couple of water
traps, you will want to add a "toilet paper filter" just upstream of the
blaster. These are available from automotive paint supply houses for about
$75 (ouch) but are WELL worth it. When blasting on a humid day, the water
traps will not remove all the water as you will see moisture being sprayed
onto the fresh metal.
A tip for plating: Platers usually have a "lot charge" even for one part.
In restoring my Stearman PT-27 airplane, I found that local aircraft
propellor overhaul shops all do cadmium plating or send it out, and are
generally willing to have your parts done for their cost and no lot charge.

Good luck,
