Hi again, Henry,
There's some great pictures showing all this in the "comic book" style TM
for M37's. It's an Operator's Manual, TM 9-2320-212-10, Nov '73
It's a small format, ~4" x 6", with a lot of great little common sense tips
which would apply to any vehicle. Maybe someone on the list can scan in the
winch pages for you until you find a copy. I can't, not being "web-footed"
:)

Here's an example for y'all:
A 150-lb window washer hoists himself up on a 150-lb scaffold using a 150-lb
test rope (a pulley is fastened above the window somewhere). When he gets to
the window he ties the rope off on the scaffold railing. The rope promptly
snaps, and scaffold and all fall to the ground. How can this be?
Clue: See Arthur Boeck's post :)
