The Connecticut Military Vehicle Collectors Club has been very active in
regional car shows for several years, besides holding our own rallies.
The participation has made some of the bigger shows creat a military
vehicle class. We have been successful also in the commercial class, and
truck classes also. Attending the shows allows people who may not attend
a
"military" show the chance to see the vehicles and learn about them and
the
club. When pesented with a historical emphasis, everyone seems to enjoy
them, and appreciate the history, and work done on preserving these
vehicles. It also gives the club more exposure and new contacts. I tend to
sit by my Jeeps and it never ceases to amaze me the people I meet and the
stories I hear, and the friendly conversations, particularly from vets
who reflect on their experiences, and the young kids who want to learn
about the vehicles. Military vehicles and military vehicle clubs tend to
have a harder time being excepted, due to many factors out of our control,
but we can make ourselves more visible and recognized by participating in
as many shows, parades, and events as possible. When presented as HMV"s,
the publics respect and appreciation is very evident.
