Henry,

You should ask that question to people who were imprisonned, or whose
country was occupied, by the Japanese.

In Europe, its not in the United Kingdom that German uniforms cause
problems, its in France, the Netherlands and the other countries which were
occupied.

The problem is exacerbated by the fact that, during the occupation, part of
the population advocated collaboration with the occupant, while the rest
fought against them; to wear German uniform associates you with those
traitors who collaborated with the Germans.

Given that those collaborators often denounced resistants to the Germans,
which led to their bein tortured and executed, sentiments still run very
high here.

Maybe you will now understand better the high feelings German uniforms can
cause here.
