I bought 2 of the gauge reducers. These are voltage regulators, not just
resistors. They have a ground wire that needs to be attached. One thing I
was shocked at was the shipping from JC. It was almost the cost of another
one of these ~$15

Found this tidbit of info on another list:

From: Bill Rigsby <bill.rigsby@usa.net>

Regarding guage conversion (6-12V). JC Whitney has 2 items of
interest.
1. Regulated voltage reducer, protects 6V guages when upgrading
to 12V,
attaches to back
guage, 1 Amp capacity, use one per guage 1 7/8" long, 71GA0376Y,
$16.99

2. Voltage reducer,use 6V radios, lights, etc. in a 12V negative
ground
system, 3 wires,
6&8 Amp terminals 12GA8181W $ 19.99 or 10&20 Amp terminals
13GA5606U $19.99
Also have this in a 24 - 12 V version
