I think we are talking about 3 different bridges here:
Pontoon: Inflatable rubber boats holding up metal Treadway bridge
sections
Pontoon: Wooden boats holding up metal or wood roadway sections
Bailey: Erector set like bridging set for spanning short distances

The second one, wooden boats + roadway sections, is the one
I had in mind....I guess you do not need a crane for them to be
handled. Am I right to assume that the boats may be handled by
some strong GIs ?
