Getting the state manual and carrying it with you in your vehicle is your
best defence. Not only do the people who you talk to in your local offices
not know the laws but there are inspectors and law enforcemet officials who
don't know it either. I had a problem with local officials on the licensing
of all my MVs (M54, Saracen, & the semi to haul it). Once I got the book
they had to back off and shut up. If it is not in the book they can't make
it up or make it stick.
