Re: [MV] flat towing an m35

I once flat towed a class 530C pumper behind a M35A2 about thirty miles, and
again about 70 miles behind a M36A2, using a military tow bar. The first tow
was through the city streets of Memphis and home. I didn't have any probs,
but got plenty of strange looks, did wish I had lights on the towed vehicle
though. Second tow was leading club convoy to airshow, M36A2 was worked
pretty hard on hills. I allowed plenty of stopping room both time, although
vehicle combination stopped pretty well under normal circumstances, I was
concerned about emergency stop conditions. (BTW, the 530C now runs like a
swiss watch)
Pulled a M45 about 65 miles behind M35A2, no problem again.

All these were done using military towbar setup (NOT the one with reversible
ends), which worked as designed. Be extremely cautious. Watch the steering
tires of the towed vehicle, under hard cornering, they sometimes don't return
to center. (In my experience, M37 tires NEVER center)

Have also towed behind 5 and ten ton trucks, the pull itself is easier on the
truck, but it is harder to watch the towed vehicle (especially when towing
with the ten ton).

Good luck, and be careful,
David Doyle
