Guys, the GPS in question is really nothing more than a somewhat hardened civy
unit. I used them in Germany in the early 90s. Their accuracy is nothing
spectacular. Without moving the accuracy against survey varied by as much as 800
meters. Also, three identically set-up units would disagree by more than 500
meters. Occasionally, they would agree with one another and survey within a
couple of meters. For typical navigation, they are fine. They DO NOT have an
encryption. I did a study of the first generation (Trimble Trimpacks, the type
in question here) GPS for my Division Artillery Commander. He wanted to know if
the system was accurate enough to use in lieu of survey information for an
Artillery firing unit. It wasn't.

Those with encryption are completely different units and you won't find them
anywhere but IN the military. They are much more accurate.....how much more I
can't tell you.....military secret you know.

Also the encrypted one the Army uses are strictly handheld with built in antenna.
THe unit for sale, while able to be used hand held, is primarily made to be
mounted. Handheld operation is a pain in the butt.
