Tim,

The M578 Light Recovery Vehicle (armored wrecker) that we have at our Museum
is still in the Army inventory, and in daily use, as far as I know. It comes
with a hydraulically operated impact wrench that couples to fittings that
are supplied by the pump that powers the winch and crane. It's listed in the
BII as: Wrench, Impact, Hydraulic, 3/4 inch square drive, 2000 psi, 800 lb
ft torque, NSN 5130-00-790-2284. I would guess that you might be able to
twist the axle off of some smaller vehicles with this one. By the way, DRMO
does surplus these wrenches, on occasion. All you need to power it is a 2000
psi hydraulic pump and a 450 hp Detroit Diesel to drive it :)

John

The HMMWV contact trucks come with a neat 24v impact
wrench that has a NATO slave receptacle on the end of
the cord. Since we got our new truck a few months ago at
my unit I have used the hell out of this thing, it is
extremly handy because it will work off of any vehicle.
I belive most armoured vehicles have the same unit as
part of their BII.
