[MV] WWII jeep windshield rifle rack

Hi all,

Got a neat birthday present from my father in law... an apparently unissued
windshield mounted rifle rack.

I made the unfortunate observation that it didn't look like the right one
because the most obvious mounting methods indicated a verticle mount. I
didn't immediately grasp the purpose of the carriage bolt holes (square)
that line up perfectly with the windshiled mounts. Unfortunate because he
obviously went through alot of trouble to find it and I threw the shadow of
doubt over it. What the heck do I know? It is perfect.

Anyways... it holds my M1 carbine very easily, but the Garand is EXTREMELY
tight and the part that you turn to retain the barrel leaves a mark on the
fore stock despite the rubber sleeve. Is this normal? I thought these racks
were supposed to accomodate both types and even some other rifles.

Any idea what one of these things are worth? It is absolutely mint and
appears to be unused. Not that I am looking to sell, but I would like to be
able to more appropriately show my appreciation for the gift.

Thanks all.
