Antonie,

I own a 1998 Ural as the machine is known here and it did indeed start
production in Moscow in late 1940 early 1941. When the Germans attacked
Russia they moved much faster than the Russians expected ( remember they
only stopped the Germans 17 miles from Moscow) they decided to move the
entire plant from Moscow to Irbit, Siberia where it still is today cranking
out 600 motorcycles a day 6 days a week.

Check out this website in merry old England

http://www.uralmoto.com/ Click on the word enter to enter the
site and scroll down the next page that comes up to the "Brief History
Uralmoto Zavod" for the real story. If you like I could send you pics of my
"Tourist" Ural which is an excellent way to enjoy motorcycling on and off
the road.

One of these days who knows I just might come across a Chang Jang and
grab it for myself. I haven't run across one yet but when I do I might just
try to "grab" it for myself.
