Hey !

MBCs on MBs and CJ2As:

The MB type is clear to me. The CJ had two models,
one (early) cast iron type, and one (late) aluminium type...

Can someone answer the following question(s):

- Are they all interchangable ?

or

- Are only the MB and CJ cast iron one interchangable ?

This question came up, when I tried to help a friend with
a 1947 CJ2A (brake problems). The MBC had to be changed
due to corrosion. I suggested a new spare, as a rebuilt seemed
unreliable due to the severe corrosion. He ordered the spare
parts and I came along to do the work. We could not do the
repair, as the spare MBC did not fit. The replacement MBC
had the two holes for the mounting bolts without a thread at the
front holes and the front / rear holes were about 90 mm / 3 1/2
inch apart. On the MB and the installed old MBC in the CJ2A,
they do have a thread and are abt 80 mm, 3 1/8 in. apart.....so,
I wonder, was there only a change in material from cast iron to
aluminium, or was ther also a change in design and mounting.
In the latter case, the (late) CJ2A frame must be different from
the early frame...

....or did the dealer simply supply the wrong MBC ?

Pleased to hear....
