USA only experimented with this type, but Canada put it into production as
the:

M152CDN
Similar to M43 / M43CDN ambulance in appearance but has a single rear door
and 4 side windows (up high) on each side with wire mesh covering. Inside
was a table for wireless set (often a No. 19 set to c. 1960, then a C42
system.

"Gin Palace" is a nickname used before this as well for an encliosed vehicle
(e.g. a HUP, where one could drink in privacy.

I rode in one while attached to 3 PPCLI on Vancouver Island in the 1970s.
There are a at least in local collections in the Vancouver, BC area BUT none
come out to rallies! They could look really sharp with all of the radio
gear!

Typical Canadian Army Registration number, painted on door on each side in
white 54-45005 (54 = year; 40,000 = 3/4 size vehicles in 1950s production
of M Series vehicles; this number was for 5th one accepted by Canadian Army.

Colour was usually plain semi-gloss dark green until c. 1970 when the
Canadian Army went to a three colour camouflage pattern starting with the
regular force. The RCAF had some, possibly in blue, probably obtained from
the Canadian Army. A number of them went south to US collectors when sold
surplus in the mid-1970s.
