Further info for those who may be planning to attend the welcoming
ceremonies for LST-325 tomorrow:

According to the Mobile Register (the local daily fishwrapper), Alabama
State Docks officials expect a sizable turn-out Wednesday. That's the
good news. The bad news is that the said officials have decided to limit
the number of vehicle passes which will be issued to enter the docks
facility to 1,000. Presumably, the passes will be issued at the
Beauregard St. gate where visitors will be allowed entry. The officials
have also requested that people not arrive before 8:00 AM Wednesday.

The newspaper article goes on to imply (but does not state specifically)
that pedestrians would be allowed to enter, but says that it's a
lo-o-o-o-ng walk from the gate to the pier where LST-325 will be
berthed. My note: If you plan to try entering as a pedestrian, be
advised that there are not too many *legal* parking places immediately
outside the gate, so your hike might be even longer.

My additional note: You could watch the vessel's arrival from Cooper
Riverside Park near the foot of Government St., or from the rear of the
Mobile Convention Center on Water St. Both facilities are directly on
the Mobile River, which the vessel will transit en-route to the State
Docks. She is expected to arrive at the State Docks about 10:30 AM,
which means that she would be passing the park and convention center at
about 10:00.
