Rear lockouts may not be as far fetched of an idea as some might think. My
deuce is 1200 miles away so I can't test my idea, but some of you not so busy
folks might go outside and take a look at something. If the bolt pattern for
the front drive flange and the rear axle are the same then there is a way to
do the lockouts on the rear. What I am saying is if you can remove the rear
axle and bolt on a front drive flange then all that would be needed in
addition to a set of front hubs would be a pair if gun drilled axles.
Basically gun drilled axles are splined on both sides. These would have to
be made by a custom axle maker. There are some options on making these axles
and will gladly share them if somebody gets interested. Another possibility
would be to disassemble the front lockouts and weld the existing flange holes
and redrill them to match the rear bolt pattern. Hey, maybe we have something
going here! As I stated in a previous post about drilling the front flange
spline out on a spare set of flanges, one could also remove one pair of rear
axles and put a dummy flange in its place and achieve the same thing. As a
matter of fact, because the rear jack shaft would still be in place, one
would only have to remove one rear axle shaft and replace with a dummy flange
to eliminate tire scuffing between the axles. If you're heading off road,
just 8 bolts to pull the dummy and install the shaft and you're back in
business. If I ever get my deuce back home I'll start working on the
possibilities of doing this.......Kenny
