It's been my experience that police officers are like any other group.
Most of them are basically nice folks, with a few whose insecurities
come out after a while and cause them to try to bully everybody they
meet. As a friend of mine's dad who was a cop once put it to me, "When
you spend 8 hours a day dealing with the scum of humanity (i.e. the
criminal element), after a while you start to treat everyone you meet
like that if you don't watch yourself." And he was right; I can see
where its a stressful and sometimes depressing job. However, its not
fair to blame ALL police officers for the acts of a few. Most of the
time, THEY don't like the jerks they have to work with any more than the
rest of us. Just treat them like you want them to treat you, as a
rule. And IF they are honestly persecuting you unfairly (and you're not
just mad because you got caught), don't argue with them- contact their
department's internal affairs division and file your complaint with
them. That will cause your antagonist FAR more grief than will your
voicing your anger at him, and if he really IS crooked, he NEEDS to be
drummed off the force anyway.
