I work as an archivist, and a big national catalog of library books (40
million records) shows two editions of "Baking Manual for the Army Cook:
Including Instructions On Using Lard as a Shortening in Baking and for
Deep-Fat Frying and Panfrying," 96 pages, by the National Live Stock and
Meat Board. One is shown as being published in 1942; the other revised
edition is dated 1943.
Edmund B. Gregory was the Quartermaster General from April 1940 until
January 1946.
  Hope this helps--

    Bill
