Yeah its full of really interesting stuff like..

Pikes Invasion of Spanish territory 1803 - he did with his army unit and
without permission, got captured without a shot being fired and then the
US Government had to go cap in hand to get him and his men back...

The there's the various invasions of Spanish Florida [1810 - 1826] and
seizure of territory without bothering to declare war....

There is the interestingly named 'Aroostook War' which was a brief
conflict between the U.S. and Canada concerning the Maine/New Brunswick
border. An agreement (March 1839) averted full-scale war - in fact I
don't think any opposing units actually met. The boundary was settled
(1842) by the Webster-Ashburton Treaty.

1842 Commodore TA.C. Jones USN, in command of a squadron cruising off
California, occupied Monterey, California, believing war had come. He
discovered it hadn't and was forced into a humiliating withdrawl. A
similar incident occurred a week later at San Diego

November 1866 - General Sedgwick and 100 US soldiers crossed into mexico
obtained the surrender of Matamoras. After 3 days he was ordered by US
Government to withdraw. His invasion was repudiated by the President.

I could go on for a while longer as 19th century american military
history is full of amusing little items like that.
