There is a lot of confusion surrounding the A2 and A3 suffixes on these
trucks.
These suffixes represent changes to individual models, not the entire series.

For example
A M35 is built on a M45 chassis
Both a M109 and M109A1 are built on a M45 chassis
A M35A1 is built on a M45A1 chassis.
A M109A2 is built on a M45A1 chassis
A M35A2 is built on a M45A2 chassis.
A M109A3 is built on a M45A2 chassis.
Tanker trucks and expansible vans get even more confusing, working up to an
-A5 suffix.
To add to this, all of the above are G-742 series trucks, or -209 series
trucks, depending on the reference you use (and the M35A3 are -386 series
trucks).
