M151 fording valve

I just replaced the fording valve on my M151A2, the old one was stuck.

Several questions have come to light after examing the old and new
valves. When the valves are in the closed position as described in
the tech manual, all three of the pipe fittings are open to pass
through preasure, the pvc line and two others that I can't rember
what they did as I write this.

In the open position, lever to the rear towards the firewall, all
three openings are blocked.

The manual does not describe what to expect internally on the valve
in either open or closed position.

After replacing the valve and putting everything back the way I found
it, except for stuck nature of valve, I started the jeep and when I
step on the gas there is a really back case of stutter and
acceleration lag. This exist no matter what position the new valve
is in. Idle seems smooth enough, but when gas is applied that is
when the trouble begins.

The possibilities that come to mind are leaks in the fittings to the
new valve and possibly a timing issue based on the timing being set
when the old valve was on and was broken.

Anybody have an idea on this, please let me know, I am stumped. Now,
I am not even sure that I understand what the valve is supposed to do
when fording takes place.
