Long live the CUCV

I have heard some grumblings about the CUCV series of trucks and wanted to put
in my two cents worth...

I have a '84 M1009. A couple of weeks ago a bunch of us went out to the desert
for a day of four wheeling. There were three full sized adults and one large
teenager in my Blazer. We also had tools and camping gear in two large medical
supply boxes behind the rear seat. We crested Cajon Pass at 57 MPH in third
gear. Sure, my friend with his big block Ford pickup passed us on the hill,
but I caught him on the flats. The Blazer performed flawlessly on the highway
and off road in high and low range. The temperature was about 45 degrees F
with a 30 MPH wind. We were warm and toasty with the CUCV's great heater. Did
I mention I got 18 MPG overall for the day? Highway cruising speed was 65 to
70 MPH.

The CUCV looks good, sounds cool, is comfortable, gets you there in a
reasonable amount of time, and is a pleasure to drive. I think they're great.
