In reference to the drive shaft, some slip and stub yokes are splined in such
a way as to keep the ujoints in phase. I have come across a few that could
be forced together in the wrong position. They usually have one tooth of the
spline wider than the rest. In the case of the '53, it might be worn enough
to allow you to slip it together a certain distance. The little collar that
was screwed onto the slip yoke may have had a plastic sleeve in it. Both of
those should be slid all the way to the bottom of the stub yoke before
driveshaft assembly.
Unless somebody has been fooling with your truck, all the grease fittings
should be Zerk fittings. Some may have different size threads and made at
different angles. All should take the same grease gun ends. Not a bad idea
to replace all of them either!
