As in Uraguay (sp?) a SWER (Single Wire Earth Return) system is used
in the area I live in over approximately 1/4 of this state, which is a
pretty big area. In the majority of cases this is to isolated Sheep
Stations of impressive acreages where the nearest neighbour is usually
10 miles away. Transmission voltage is 22kv. Evidently the losses
don't even come close to the cost of running an extra cable to the
transformer located at each property.

I live in a town of 19,000 people, but nearest MV collector to me is
30 miles away, the next nearest after him is 180 miles away, so it is
not only the Sheep Stations who are isolated!

Regards
Doug
