M35A2 info needed

Hi to all,

While under my M35A2 the other day I discovered a potential problem. On
the right, rear, upper area of the transmission there is a shiney shaft
protruding horizontally. On the end of the shaft there is a vertical
"bar" with an offset in it attached with a yoke and bolt. The lower end
of this bar has a hole (eye). This bar is not attached to any thing, but
there is a threaded boss in the trans case that looks like it may be a
pivot point for the bar.

What is this for? Is it suppose to be bolted to the trans?

My -34P (Dec 1976 ) fig 86a, page 145 shows the horizontal shaft at top
rear of the gearbox with the eye in it, but does not show the bar. What
TM would should I check for this?

TIA,
