Hi Jack...

Can you drill some of the material out with a long wood spade bit or a
bit on an extension? A few holes drilled into the material might
lessen the holding pressure and allow it to be worked out, or even
broken up and pulled free.

Fiberglass made with polyester resin can be dissolved with various
chemicals including acetone, MEK (methyl ethyl ketone) and paint
strippers (paint strippers are usually a base of methylene chloride,
which itself is available in raw liquid form from Skylighter.com, a
pyro chems house). Acetone, MEK and strippers are available
everywhere. Maybe pour in some chems and let it soak for a few hours,
then try driving it out.

Good luck!
