Re: [MV] Air Compressor Recommendation?

I scrounged a 12 hp Kohler powered two cylinder compressor from the
local bone yard that had been in a fire. I replaced two air filters, oil
in both compressor and engine, two belts, an o ring, and soldered the
brass float in the carb, and the gas tank. Then put on a quart of school
bus yellow paint. It puts out more air than the two electric shop
compressors (6.5 and 3 hp)combined. Also, while I was there I took a
regulator from a Binks barn type sprayer and installed it on the output.
If you find something that is just lying there in a boneyard...it might
be because it is worn out. If you find something that has been lightly
damaged in a fire...it probably has been surveyed for insurance
purposes. I have somewhere near $50 to $75 in the rig
I also bought a Jeep that way too, a woman came driving it in and wanted
to sell it...they paid her $77 for it and said "pull it up on the hill".
She needed a screwdriver and pliers to take her plates off and out of
curosity, I volunteered to help her. With a little talk, I found out her
husband had run off with another woman...her way of getting even. I
drove it for several years, gave it to the no. 1 son, he drove it too
and recently sold it for $400. This is a little mom and pop type yard,
probably won't work in the bigger yards. Don't overlook them, they
ocasionally have military stuff too, it's nice to have a friend there.
In return, I would take the portable welder down and weld up a piece of
equipment for them. They need their car crusher welded right now...a
couple hours well spent. Fred Martin
