Not sure if the bolt spacing is the same, but you might suggest he just
pick up a ball mount pintle from your local hitch retailer. That way,
if it's the same mount, it would be a direct swap with the mil-spec
hitch, and allow you to mount the ball of your choice. And it would not
necessitate having to bolt up an under frame mount civvy receiver hitch
(which would be the second option).
