Hitting it with a stick? Maybe, but try this simple old hot rodder's fix
first- let it sart and idle (as best it will) with the air cleaner
removed. While it is idling, cup your hand over the top of the carb and
choke off the carb until it ALMOST dies. You might even have to give it
a little throttle while doing this, but what happens is that IF you have
a little piece of dirt or other junk plugging up one of the internal
passages, this will often help create so much vacuum that it will pull
the dirt out and unplug the carb, thereby helping it run better. It
doesn't always work, but it's free and worth a shot.
