Well according to what I read, 2 lbs of axle grease goes in the rear
hub. Of course the bearings get packed with part of this. The axles are
not supposed to get into the grease, they are in the diff oil. here's a
drawing at the bottom of the page which shows this;

I will say it is what I recall from themanual on greasing the bearings.
