Hi Dick ,
It`s good to know that my posts are read , I`m aware of the
lag that placing the probe on the outside of the turbo would cause but
since most
instruments on a vehicle are GAUGES ,it`s not the reading thats critical but
that it shows what is normal for that vehicle , and any deviation from that
is cause for concern . EG a temp gauge will be marked cold , normal , hot ,
not in degrees . Those that are marked in degrees are often not very
accurate .
The fact that temperatures would rise so fast to cause trouble before being
sensed I doubt and if the display had an alarm then some damping of the
readings would be needed . The turbo is the critical component , not the
gases , so the turbo body is the best place for the sensor .
The lag could be reduced by fitting to the thinish wall of the exhaust pipe
just down from the blower !
But why stop there , why not install K type thermocouples in the oil pan ,
water jacket , transmission case Etc , the boy racers version would have a
bank of displays with built in alarms ,one for each .The sales reps model
would have one display and electronic sequencing and alarms whilst the
economy version could use a manual switch . PLEASE note that the switch must
be of a special type !
JUST a bit of fun , {but not to hard to do }.
