I was pretty sure that you couldn't unless it was maybe a glow in the
dark one, ;-) that was why I asked what the true term was. I had no
idea how much light the blackout headlight emitted as mine had not been
functioning since I purchased my vehicle. It's been a great year by
the way, I love my M1008! I had always thought that the blackout
lights were only just the bar lights on the bumpers. If I had to
invent a name for it, I probably would have called it the "bridge plate
light" given its close proximity to that. As for the map light
function, I can see why though that someone might think that as it
points downwards and if you were trying to find your way maybe you
could hold a map up close to it to navigate in the dark if your eyes
were well adjusted to the darkness and you had no other light sources.
I have yet to see how much light mine puts out as I have so far only
seen it work in full daylight conditions. I'm still really psyched
that it was only corrosion that had kept it dark for all of this time.
