Jess, come to Texas!
Texans still believe in everything you mentioned. I am a 100% disabled vet
and the State of Texas treats me as if I did not waste my entire life and
health defending my country.
Austin (the capitol) is the most liberal left wing city in Texas, however
HMV's parade down Congress Ave many times a year, and you will see hundreds
of placards stating simply "Thank You", the crowds applaud and wave to all
groups in the parade, especially military, and the crowds love seeing the
TAVV (Texas Association of Vietnam Vets) patrol in full combat gear.
Sure, I could be bitter that my teenage friends mostly grew up rich and
safe, but I would not trade any of that for the cameradie and good times of
traveling the planet with Uncle Sam.
Most people don't know how poor most retirees are.
Living in Texas takes a lot of that sting away. There are small benefits
that make everyday life a little easier; there are huge benefits that make
it possible to own a home and land here.
Things like tax breaks, free education, Texas Veterans Land Board loans (in
addition to regular VA loans), and on and on.
Even if you are not a vet, who can argue with no state income tax?
Yes, we do have a dark side. Like anywhere else, we have some crime in our
inner cities. We even have murderers. What Texas does not have is crime in
our countryside. We do not have repeat murderers. We bury them.
A lot of our citizens are armed by choice and State approval. If that makes
you uncomfortable, stay in Kalifornia or D.C.
We call our policemen 'Sir' and we respect our elders, especially men who
fought for our freedom.
I could go on and on, but I do not work for the Texas Immigration Authority.
Some Texans believe we have enough Kalifornians already. I don't. But I'm
not native.
So sell your $750,000 home, come on down, buy a new bigger house for
$250,000 and live well.
Don't forget the sunscreen.

P.S. I ramble a lot, but you get the idea.

Man, that is when you know it is time to move and give your tax money to an
area that supports things like soldiers, cops and the generation that saved
the world!!!!!!!
