The fact that there is an unpopular "war" going on, with the attendant civil
disobedience, however ill-advised, aimed at stopping it, adds to the
investigative reasoning. A friend who lives across the street from a large
college campus had sand put in the fuel tank of his immaculately restored
(and obviously privately-owned) M35, during Bush War One. Whenever I park
one of my MV's in an unfamiliar spot, out comes the sign that says "This is
not a government vehicle. It is a privately-owned antique. Please ask before
touching. Thank you."

Tell your friend not to take it personally. It's a bigger issue than petty
vandalism. The comment in another post brings up a good point. When does an
act of protest, caused by a hatred of Bush and his policy of aggression,
become a hate crime? It would be interesting to try to convince the local
prosecutor to establish such a precedent.

Put me down for a $20 bill towards the new paint job.
