Re: [MV] Rust 'Treatments' vs. 'Coatings'

Well, I have to jump in here because I have used POR-15.
POR-15 is ultraviolet sensitive. If you do not top coat it, it will fade to
a shade similar to old black CARC paint, sort of a grayish whitish black. If
you have never seen faded CARC, sorry, I cannot explain the color any better
than that.
POR-15 does stick very well to LIGHTLY rusted surfaces. POR-15 sticks to
skin and clothing FOREVER.
The pro about POR-15 is that it lasts forever, is superb prevention and will
even take hammer blows.
The con's are also many. The POR-15 company recommends using their
proprietary metal prep chemical, (a phosphoric acid mixture), they also
advertise that nothing will stick to POR-15 except their proprietary primer
coat. Their proprietary primer can only be thinned with their proprietary
thinner. Which you can then topcoat with their proprietary topcoats. They do
allow that other paints will stick to their primer.
All of these proprietary chemicals and coatings are, naturally, expensive.
Having said all of these negative things, here is the bottom line.
I have used all of their products on my projects and they are so superior to
anything else I have used that I am a multiple repeat customer. That is
despite the high cost.
Yes, you can spray them, but you will have to immediately clean your gun
(drum roll.... wait for it.....) with their proprietary thinner.
No, I don't sell the stuff and don't have stock in the company.

P.S. In our vernacular, "Proprietary" means that they are the sole source of
supply for the item. No disrespect.
P.P.S. Eschew obfuscation!
