Guys, and gals,
It's true that automotive gas can go bad very fast, but no so with aviation gas.
I was told by a general aviation certified mechanic, that av gas has additives
that will keep the gas good for a year or more.
I've been using 100LL av gas in ALL my engines from weed whackers to jeeps for
several years and have had NO problems whatever.
On the down side av gas costs about $3.50 a gallon so I wouldn't use it in a
commuter. Most general aviation airports have self serve islands so you can use
your credit card. If the machine asks for your tail number I use n5abc and I
get my gas. I attach the bonding cable to the handle on the gas can, then make
sure that the nozzle contacts the gas can as you fill it.
I can't believe the bull crap that the signs in the gas stations tell you to put
your container on the ground. Don't the car tires insulate the car from the
ground? DUHHhhhhh. And that's not a ground anyway.
Also on the down side the av gas is 100 octane, which means that it'll take more
compression before it will explode so it is only needed in high compression
engines. There are millions of people buying high octane gas that are throwing
their money at the oil companies thinking that they are doing their car a favor.
