Dan,

You will probably find that the bolts connecting the
two manifolds together will snap off due to rust and
repeated heating over the years. Then you will have a
problem with boring out the holes and retapping them
if they are studs or drilling out the remainder if
they are bolts.

My 2 cents say go for door #2.
