I had read in RV forums that South Dakota required all RVs to stop
starting in 2002 as backlash from 9/11. I don't think that it lasted
very long - long enough for the signmakers to win and the taxpayers to
lose, though.

Wyoming once posted that "ALL" trucks must stop, not, apparently, doing
the math about what that meant. Since rectified. Signmakers 2,
Taxpayers 0.

Given the sorry state of motor vehicle regulation understanding by
everyone (and I mean *everyone*), I am not sure that even a law in your
favor can keep a person from getting a lecture or a ticket. I have
plates on my MVs even though state law says that I don't have to. It is
just not worth getting stopped to chit-chat everytime I am out.
